Now it is clear to me from reading the catalog of this exhibition that the
promoters of it think that the working men, as we call them, of these parts do most
seriously need some education in the fine arts, that they need to be told something
about them which they do not know, in order that, when they look at pictures or
other things professing to be works of art in future, they may be impressed by them
in a different way from what they have been used to do: in other words, they want
to educate people to look at pictures so that the pictures themselves may educate
