Italian Federation of Anarchist Communists

The Alternativa Libertaria/FdCA is a platformist anarchist political organization in Italy. It was originally established in 1985 through the fusion of the Revolutionary Anarchist Organization (Italian: Organizzazione Rivoluzionaria Anarchica, or ORA) and the Tuscan Union of Anarchist Communists (Italian: Unione dei Comunisti Anarchici della Toscana, or UCAT). In 1986 the Congress of the ORA/UCAT adopted the name FdCA (Federazione dei Comunisti Anarchici). In 2014 it took its current name. It has offices and member groups in various Italian regions as well as in Switzerland. It is part of the international anarchist communist movement, and traces its roots to the historically important organizational theories of the Organizational Platform of the General Union of Anarchists, first put forward in France in 1926 by Russian refugees including Nestor Makhno, Ida Mett and Piotr Arshinov. From these roots, it draws its founding principles:... (From: Wikipedia.org.)

Inauguration of the Centro Di Documentazione “Franco Salomone”

The FdCA-Federazione dei Comunisti Anarchici is pleased to announce the forthcoming opening of the premises that will host the Centro di Documentazione “Franco Salomone” (CDFS), which will take place on Saturday 30th October 2010.

The event will be the realization of the FdCA’s commitment to our dear, late libertarian communist comrade Franco Salomone made back in 2005. Franco, whose life of militancy was based in Liguria and in particular in the city of Savona, died in 2008. But thanks to him, the FdCA now has the possibility to provide new spaces and give a new boost the its anarchist communist social and political activities while, at the same time, fulfilling another commitment to comrade Salomone – that of gathering together, preserving and make the best possible use of class-struggle anarchist material from the 1960s on, together with archive material recording the struggles and experiences of anarchist communism and the revolutionary left, its militants and actors.

Beginning with the fine collection of documents that was inherited from comrade Salomone, the CDFS has already acquired the sizable archive of the Organizzazione Anarchica Pugliese/Organizzazione Rivoluzionaria Anarchica in Bari and will soon be acquiring other archives and donations from libertarian activists. We will then be proceeding to archive all the material and make it available to researchers and others interested in documenting history.

But the Centro di Documentazione “Franco Salomone” will also be a place for libertarian activists and other self-organized social activists, with its gaze fixed not only on the past, but also on the present and into the future. It will be not just and archive, but a physical and political point of reference where memory feeds historical research while at the same time linking past experiences to today’s world, fostering new generations of activists and militants who are indispensable to the continuity of the anarchist communist political and organizational project and the ongoing presence of anarchism rooted in today’s social and political struggles.

The opening of this archive is only the beginning of a political journey which intends to promote studies and research and establish valuable relations for cooperation and projects together with the many other anarchist archives and depositories which already exist and operate locally, nationally and internationally. And it is through cooperation that we can strengthen our commitment to reaching the objective we have set ourselves, the same that has existed since the days of the First International: to be the memory of yesterday’s struggles so that today we can better struggle for the libertarian alternative, for liberty, equality and solidarity.
